The transparency duties, the general purpose AI obligations, the outright prohibitions, the registration database and the enforcement powers of the EU AI Act all bind from 2 August 2026. Only the obligations covering high risk systems listed in Annex III were deferred, to 2 December 2027. If you place an AI system on the EU market, most of what applies to you applies this year.
